IALS conference 2008: request for proposals

The International Association of Law Schools invites interested faculties to submit a written description for a proposed presentation at the IALS Conference on "The Law of International Business Transactions: A Global Perspective" to be hosted by the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany on April 10-12, 2008.

The Planning Committee will be reviewing the proposals to select approximately 8 law faculty to speak for 5 minutes each at the afternoon plenary session on Saturday, April 12, 2008 on "Beyond Lecturing: Other Methods of Teaching International Business Transactions. " Possible methods of teaching could include Socratic, Problem Method, Simulation, Clinical, Distance Learning, Case Study, Case Method, Pairing Law and Business, Film, Externship/Internship, and Business and Law Students Working Together.

Interested faculty should submit a written description of the proposed presentation of one single-spaced page along with his or her vita (in English), to the IALS office no later than September 15, 2007. You may email the proposal and vita to ggirguis@aals.org. The Planning Committee will make selections shortly thereafter. Since one purpose of this request is to make the pedagogical work and wisdom of law faculty widely available, we will post all proposals on the IALS Conference website prior to the conference. Any questions about the proposals should be directed to me at cmonk@aals.org.

Because IALS has limited financial resources, we ask that you fund the faculty member's registration fee of $350 and cost of attendance at the Conference. We recognize, however, that some schools in developing countries will not be able to fully fund their presenter's attendance, so there is some financial support available. If your school's presenter is selected and requires financial support, please write a short note stating the amount that would be necessary to enable your presenter to attend.

For more information on the conference, please check the website: http://www.ialsnet.org/services/index.html

CHE-Studie zur Finanzierung des Studiums im Ausland

English version below

CHE study about funding for studying abroad.

The CHE has presented a notice concerning the study requirements and financing system in 26 countries in and outside Europe. How can one finance its study programme in another country? Which conditions should colleges fulfill in order to send students abroad? Two large country-groups can be distinguished. Firstly, within the 22 researched European countries the regulations concerning admission and financing requirements are relatively the same. Secondly, in most English speaking countries outside Europe, the requirements vary from college to college. The CHE study not only presents the admission and financing requirements in European countries, but also 95 Universities in Australia, Canada, South Africa and the USA are looked at. In total, contact information of more than 4500 colleges in Europe is offered.
